Cosmetic Grade Ultramarines & Oxides Oxides are typically earthy tone pigments. Please be aware that your results may differ due to the base oils you select and also the initial color of your fragrance or essential oil. Always test all brands and types of colorants before adding to your entire batch since your oils and fragrance color are often different from batch to batch and vendor to vendor. One-fourth to one-half teaspoon of pigments per pound of base oils is a nice range to start with and adjust from there. You don't want to over do it since you'll end up with colored bubbles which is not considered a desirable thing. Mix dry pigment in a cup with a small amount of warm distilled water (start with about teaspoon) until smooth, pour some traced soap into a small measuring cup and add some of the water mixed pigment to it a small amount at a time. This way you can check your color with your oils, before adding to your batch. If all is as you want it, slowly add into your batch while mixing until desired color is achieved. Keep in mind that you will be adding this to the larger batch of soap, which will dilute the intensity of the pigment you mixed, so mix a bit heavy if you're after a strong color vs. soft and pastel. Do not save any unused pigment that you've mixed with water and always use distilled water for mixing ultramarines & oxides. Non-distilled water causes some of the pigments to react with elements in the water and gives off a foul smell. We have not had this problem when using distilled water. Again, do not save and try to reuse any left over premixed pigment. Always mix fresh.
